I just released the audiobook version of my customer service book The 5 Principles of IT Customer Service Success, narrated by yours truly. It is now available for you to purchase on Amazon and Audible. The listing includes an audio sample so you can check it out.
I asked my step-daughter Elianor to introduce the book and the chapters. It’s really cool when you can work with your family. It helps that she has a great voice!
What I learned in the process of creating the audiobook version: Audible has strict technical standards pertaining to audio quality, loudness, and background noise. All of their requirements make a lot of sense. I was just surprised (and pleased) at how high their bar is for quality.
Also, I had originally planned to update some of the content of this IT customer service book, but then I read a thread on Reddit where several of the Redditors complained about audiobooks that were different from the print versions. Who knew that people like to read along in the book while listening to the audiobook version? Not me! After I read that, however, I stuck to the original text. I did change it where there were video URLs in the original text that would be tedious to hear me read. Instead, I pointed the listener to my blogs and provided search terms to make it easy to find the videos. I hope that’s cool with the readers.
This is a fairly short book, but my voice was only able to hold out for about a chapter at a time. I shouldn’t have been surprised by that, but I was.
I have to say, it’s very cool to visit my Amazon author page and see that it now includes an audiobook version. (I may be hard to live with for a while. I’m sure, however, that Janet will find a way to bring me back down to Earth. She’s good at that.)
